  1. Had a tremendous time watching the show at The Basement the other night. By Lightning truly moves me. Picked up the new album and have been listening steadily.

Any chance I can get my hands on lyrics? Can’t quite make everything out yet.

Thanks for making music so fun and emotional.

    • Josh – you bet! We’ll be posting lyrics on the site in the near future. Shoot us your email – electron {at} by lightning.com and we’ll let you know when they’re up!

  2. Hey, y’all. I can’t find your CD locally — or at least I can’t find it at Grimey’s. Can you bring some more copies to Grimey’s so that I might partake in your music?

  4. I love you song Future Hlistory. It reminds of the very best of the folk rockers of the 60′s ( my era ). Do you have a CD? I can only find MP3 downloads and I am kind of old fashioned.

  5. Hello, By Lightning! After hearing your song ‘Future History’ on the Subaru commercial, my Mom claimed she had sung that song at church camp 40 years ago. After searching and searching, (I watched so many weather videos) I finally found you guys and the song, but I have yet to prove her wrong. So, my question regarding this song is did you write it, or was it in fact an old camp song? Or even inspired by an old camp song?

  6. Hi — Like your music and the hand drawn lightning bolt on the envelope your CD, “Left Hand, Right Hand” came in when delivered to me — nice touch! Unfortunately, the CD is defective and won’t play — it looks like the plastic is melted in streaks across a portion of the disc (I scanned the cd so you could see the flaw — it’s at http://www.darnay.com/bylightning). Please, please send a replacement (order #100000033, 2/10/13). I miss the music as I write this from North Dakota! Sincerely, Keith Darnay

  7. Hi folks,

I wish I had heard of you before I saw the Subaru commercial that “Future History” was featured on, while watching The Office, so that I could tell you that I’m a long time fan. I can’t. However, I can say that I am now a huge fan of your music and the messages you sing. The sound of Future History is what caught my attention, but what made me really appreciate it were the lyrics. I think it’s one of the most genuine and thoughtful ways to say “thank you” to those that show us how to lead, love, learn and guide (that’s my interpretation, anyways). Those are the reasons why I chose this to be the song that my mother and I will dance to at my upcoming wedding this October. I’m contacting you to ask if there have ever been any recordings of Future History at a slower pace. While I think that a huge portion of what the song represents is behind the rhythm and beat and I wouldn’t ask anyone to change their art to supplement another’s view; my inquiry is of a more personal nature. Three years ago my mom had suffered from a stroke due to a defect, that she had lived with her entire life unknowingly, in her heart. I won’t go into detail of the way this impacted me, because if you are fortunate enough, as I am, to not only have your mother still with you but also to be close with her, I’m sure you can imagine the experience this was. She was extremely fortunate to have family and expert medical support surround her throughout her recovery, and due to that her recovery has been enormous. The facial drooping that is often associated with a stroke has disappeared entirely and her balance has been restored almost completely. That being said she still does struggle, at times, with balance. I’m contacting you in hopes that somewhere along the lines Future History has been slowed down a little bit to help her out a little with her balance, while dancing. I consider myself blessed to be able to dance with my mom and be able to share with her the entire “wedding experience” and I think that having a version of the song that’s easier for her to dance to will help her enjoy it even further than I’m sure she already will. Anyways, I appreciate any help you might be able to throw my way. And, hey, even if there isn’t anything you can do for me, I’m still going to use Future History for my mother/son dance and we will make it work and love every moment … Because that’s what we do.
